FIRST TRIM DOG’S NAILS AS SHOWN BELOW

Nails should not be too short or too long. If nails are too short, you will need to wait until they have grown long enough to reach the inside bottom of the tread comfortably.

*** Long nails are painful and increase chance of injury, trim them.

Designed for senior and special needs dogs to improve traction, mobility, stability and confidence. To reduce injuries from slipping, sliding, and falling.

♥ Correct trimming of the nails is essential to provide proper placement for optimal traction.

♥ Using electric clippers or safety scissors carefully trim away hairs, both in the area of the nail where tread is applied and hairs on bottom of paws that would be in contact with the floor.

♥ Take extra care around the pads on the bottom of the paws, if cut they will bleed.

♥ Trim the nail so that the bottom nail surface is flat as it meets the floor as shown in images below.

♥ Use Dremel tool with included cleaning/removal wheel to clean nail and remove any glue residue from previous application.

♥ You can ask your Veterinarian or groomer to apply the Dog Toe Treads for you. Bring them the instructions or refer them to the website.

♥ A Dremel is a MUST HAVE item. Use it for Trimming, shaping, and cleaning away dirt and after an application removing glue and material residue easily and quickly, leaving nail super clean for treads!

HOW TO APPLY DOG TOE TREADS – FOLLOW THESE TIPS TO TRACTION

Have dog lie down after walk, one person gives attention and treats, the other prepares nails and applies treads. Unsalted peanut butter “lick pads” are useful in distracting the dog. It takes a long time for the dog to remove all the peanut butter.

Use a maximum of 2 Treads per paw, only on the middle 2 toenails.

If applied to outer toenails, on some dogs rubbing is possible, this is not an issue when on the two middle toenails. If applying to outside nails, be aware it is possible for some dogs to show rubbing from the outer tread on the inner side fleshy skin area of the toe.

Many dogs are using more than 2 treads per paw with no rubbing issue.

Just be aware it is a possible issue with more than 2 treads per paw.

♥ Step 1: (If the shoe fits) Treads must be snug not loose, choose the smallest size that the nail will go fully into. The nail will enter the Tread & stop where it meets the front and base.

♥ Step 2: (Prep the nail) Clean & dry the entire nail. The quickest & best way to do this is by using a dremel with the cleaning buff wheel attachment (included with kit).

♥ Step 3: (Dry Fit Test) Apply Tread without glue & make sure the Treads flat bottom contacts the floor properly. You can use a Dog Toe Tread as a guide for accurate trimming (See images).

♥ Step 4: (Ready for Glue) Shake the glue prior to use! With the glue application hole facing up, make sure one full drop enters through glue hole. Only use 1 drop & keep nail still for 40 seconds. Do not squeeze very hard, you only need 1 full drop. Tap the tip while upside down and any air will leave.

After each use quickly replace cap to avoid clogs.

All super glues are not the same. Use only glue supplied.

♥ HOW-TO REMOVE DOG TOE TREADS IF YOU DON’T HAVE A DREMEL

(Get a Dremel!)

After 3-4 weeks, Treads need to be removed to trim nails. This is easiest and fastest with a Dremel. See removal video above

While supporting the nail, cut with safety scissors from back to front along the bottom on both sides. Peel up sides, cutting away at glue inside tread. Continue cutting away glue as you peel up the tread halves over top/front of nail. Now cut off completely (works best). Drops of nail polish remover/acetone may also applied to glue hole to loosen adhesive.

A Dremel with buff wheel cleans wonderfully the nail for next application removing any residue glue and tread material leaving nail super clean for treads!
